Unilever’s food division will not be listed at Beursplein 5

23 July 2026

While there was still jubilation in December 2025 over the arrival of Unilever’s spun-off ice cream division, Magnum, it has now become clear that the Amsterdam Exchange has lost the battle for Unilever’s food division. Unilever has opted to sell its food division (including Calvé, Knorr and Unox) to US company McCormick. This global leader in spices is listed in New York and is seeking a European listing in London. Unilever, which has been fully British since 2020, appears determined not to “leave the UK capital empty-handed”.

The disappointment is considerable. Despite strong lobbying by politicians, the employers’ organisation VNO-NCW and Euronext, the Amsterdam Exchange has missed out on the listing. And it is particularly painful because Unilever had previously promised that Amsterdam would get the food division in the event of a spin-off. Unfortunately, it appears that this commitment from Unilever applied only in the event of a spin-off and not to a merger with another party.
